PRIVATE LEMUEL
KOLB was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in December of 1896 to John
and Sophia Kolb. He lived in Philadelphia most of his life, but had come
to Camden by the spring of 1917, when he was living at 944 Lawrence
Street. He enlisted at Camden on July 23, 1917 in the Third Regiment,
New Jersey National Guard. In October of 1917 he was transferred to
Company B, 11th Machine Gun Battalion. Private Kolb went overseas in
June of 1918.
Private Kolb
fell victim to the Spanish flu pandemic that took millions of lives in
the fall of 1918. He died of bronchial pneumonia on September 18, 1918
in France.
Private Kolb
was brought home in the spring of 1921. He was buried on May 28 at
Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania.
