PRIVATE HOWARD JORDAN was
born in Camden, New Jersey on September 30, 1896. He was one of at least five children
born to
Jeremiah "Jerry" and Kate Jordan. The 1906 City Directory
shows the family at 812 Silver Street. When the Census was taken in
Jun of 1910, the family lived at 777
Pine
Street. The elder Jordan then
worked as a laborer at a lumber yard. The other children at home were
sisters Annie, Margaret, and Marion, and brother John. His mother later
moved to 1125 Clover
Street, just off of Kaighn Avenue. Howard Jordan was living
and working in Atlantic City as a rolling chair pusher on the Boardwalk
when he registered for the draft on June 5, 1917. He was drafted in May of 1918, and
sent to Camp Dix NJ. Pneumonia caused his
death on December 4, 1918. His mother was then living at 1134
Clover
Street.
