CHARLES HERSEY MANDER was born in Millton, Maryland on June 4, 1894. He
went by his middle name. By June of 1917 Hersey Mander
had come to Camden, and lived at 707
Baxter Street with his
mother, Mrs.
Mary Mitchell, and his brother, a double amputee. Hersey Manders
registered for the draft in Camden on June 5, 1917 and was called up on April
26th of the following year. He was sent to Camp Dix NJ and assigned to Battery D,
319th
Field Artillery Regiment. Private
Charles Hersey Mander died of heart disease on December 26, 1918
at Camp Dix. He was survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Mitchell, of
613 Liberty
