FRED D. STIMPSON was the son of William F. and Pauline Stimpson, of
Audubon NJ. His father was a bookkeeper at a local textile works,
William.Stimpson later took a similar position at a carpet mill. The
Stimpson family was living at 325 Walnut Avenue, Audubon NJ when Fred
Stimpson enlisted in the
United States Army on May 15, 1918, at the age of 21. He was sent to
Fort Slocum NY, and then to Fort Adams RI. Assigned to Battery F, 73rd
Railroad Artillery Regiment, he sailed with his unit for France in
September of 1918, and arrived on September 30.
Private
Fred D. Stimpson died of pneumonia on October 12, 1918. He
was survived by his parents, and his grandparentrs William and Susie
Stimpson of 2815 Westfield
Avenue, Camden NJ. When the census was taken
in April of 1930 his parents had bought a house at 229 Walnut Street in
Audubon NJ, while his grandparents were still in the same house on
Westfield Avenue in Camden.
