ALBERT CHARLES THOMPSON was born in Pennsylvania on December 14, 1895.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Thompson.
His father was a Sergeant in Company A, Camden Battalion, State Militia
Reserve. The Thompson family lived at 425
Market Street in Camden
NJ.
Albert
Thompson was living at 943 point
street in North Camden and
working as a
machine hand at the Dexter Manufacturing Company at Front and
Arch
Streets when he registered for the draft on June 5, 1917.
Albert Thompson was a member of the 2nd New Jersey Field
Artillery, New Jersey National Guard. He
had secured his discharge from his National Guard unit so he could
be drafted, and was called up on February 25, 1918. Sent to Camp Dix NJ
for training, he was assigned to Company D, 309th Infantry
Regiment. He sailed for France with the 309th on May 29th
1918.
Private
Albert Thompson was killed in action on October 29, 1918 at Bois des
Loges, between Grand Pre and St. Juvin, France. He was brought home to
Camden after the war and was buried at Evergreen Cemetery.
