PRIVATE FIRST CLASS BURTON
DALLAS BAGG was born in Bridgeton NJ on April 22, 1895 to Mr. and Mrs.
Richard D. Bagg. The elder Bagg was a florist. The family had moved to a
house on Hartford-Medford Road in the Hartford section of Mt. Laurel Township
NJ sometime after June of 1900. Besides Burton there were at least five
other children, Bessie, William, Katherine, Mary, and John.
Burton Bagg registered
for the draft on June 5, 1917. At that time he was living with his
mother and father in the Hartford section of Mt. Laurel Township NJ. He
was employed as an operations clerk by the Pennsylvania Railroad at
Seaside Park NJ.
Assigned
to Company A, 309th Infantry Regiment, Private
First Class Bagg was killed in action while serving in France on October 20,
1918.
Prior
to joining the military, Burton Bagg been a member of the Ottawa tribe
of the patriotic fraternal
organization, the Improved
Order of Red Men, and his name was inscribed on the
war memorial
that group had erected at Pulaski Park on
Haddon
Avenue. The monument
was moved in 1981 to Tuckerton NJ, where it stands today.
Private
Bagg's mother was still living in Mt. Laurel as late as 1930, when she
registered to make the government paid for pilgrimage to her sons final
resting place in France..
