CORPORAL LAWRENCE J. VIRGILIO was born April 16, 1942. and was one of three sons born to Anthony Nicholas and Caroline Rose Virgilio in Camden, New Jersey. His two brothers were Nicholas A. and Anthony Nicholas "Little Nick" Virgilio. He graduated from Camden High School and Lincoln Preparatory School in Philadelphia. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on February 11, 1966. Corporal Virgilio was killed in action at Da Nang on July 24, 1967. He was survived by his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Anthony Virgilio Sr., and two brothers, Anthony Jr. and Nicholas, who who later became famous as a poet. |

A Proud Marine Yank Dies Of Wounds The parents of a Camden Marine Corps corporal who signed all his letters home with "God Bless the Marine Corps" were notified Friday by the Defense Department that their son had been killed in Vietnam. Corporal Lawrence J. Virgilio, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Virgilio Sr., of 1092 Niagara Road, Camden, died Tuesday in Da Nang, South Vietnam, of head wounds received in battle. Corporal Virgilio, a graduate of Camden High School and Lincoln Preparatory School in Philadelphia, enlisted February 11, 1966. He was scheduled to return to the United States on August 22. An apprentice bricklayer before entering the service, the Marine had first been assigned to motor transport divisions but had requested transfer to the infantry.
