STAFF SERGEANT JAMES S. CACILE was born in New Jersey in 1922 to Daniel D. and his wife, the former Hannah Suttill. He was the nephew of long-time Camden County Clerk Frank J. Suttill. He was a life-long resident of Haddon Heights NJ and a 1941 graduate from Haddon Height High School when enlisted in the United States Army in Philadelphia PA on December 8, 1941. He qualified for air duty, trained as a flight engineer on a bomber crew, and served 22 months in the European theater. After being discharged from active duty in November of 1945, he decided to re-enlist, and returned to service at Philadelphia on September 19, 1946. He was sent to the Far East, and was last based in Japan. Staff Sergeant Cacile was on a B-26 that went missing on February 14, 1950 while on a routine training flight. He was survived by his parents. |

Staff Sergeant James S. Cacile, 27, a nephew of County Clerk Suttill, is one of a bomber crew reported today as missing from a Far East air force base.
The family of Cacile, who lives at 1928 South Park Avenue, Haddon Heights, was notified today by the Air Force that the airman had been missing since last Tuesday.
The B-26 bomber on which Cacile was making a routine training flight disappeared en route from Yokota Air Base in Japan to the Itazuki Air Base on Kyushu Island.
Cacile was to have returned home to Haddon Heights in April on a two-month furlough. He had been serving in the Far East for the last three years.
Mrs. Daniel Cacile, mother of the missing airman, said today he recently had written he expected to be grounded soon bec ause of a shortage of planes in Japan.
Cacile is a flight engineer and i s serving his second enlistment in the air force. He enlisted the day after Pearl Harbor and served 22 months in the European theatre.
Discharged in November, 1945, h e reenlisted in September, 1946 and was sent to Japan the following December.
Cacile is a graduate of the class of 1941 at Haddon Heights High school. He is an only child and is unmarried. Daniel Caclle is employed at the Camden Forge.
