Hospital Corpsman Shecklen was born in Camden NJ on March 25, 1930. He appears to have been the son of George Shecklen and Jean Tait Shecklen, of Somerdale NJ. He was serving in Korea with the 1st Marine Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while engaged with the enemy on July 19, 1953 and presumed dead on September 20, 1954. George Shecklen had boxed Golden Gloves for the Navy in 1952. George Gene Shecklen had apparently established residence at Garden CA prior to 1951, and his father passed away in California in 1975. It is unclear, however, when the family moved west. |
