WARE STREET was created in the 2000s after the Chelton Terrace Public Housing project was demolished. The street east from Master Street to South 10th Street, parallel to Bulson Street, which lays to the south. There was a family named Ware whose members were very involved in the civic life of the neighborhood in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and it would be nice to think that the Housing Authority of the City of Camden or anyone in power at City Hall thought to honor them… one of the Wares was a firefighter who died in the line of duty… but given the record of political pandering and hostility towards anything historical evidenced by the politicians of the time, it is highly doubtful that the above-mentioned Wares were though of. |
Do you have an Ware Street memory or picture. Let me know by e-mail so it can be included here. Phil Cohen |
