Streets of Camden, NJ

Tilghman Drive

TILGHMAN DRIVE was created in the 2000s after the Roosevelt Manor Public Housing project was demolished. The street is in two parts. The first runs east from Master Street to South 7th Street, and the second runs from Kossuth Street to South 9th Street, running parallel to Central Avenue, which lays to the south. There is a possibility that, with the demolishing of the Clement T. Branch Public Housing project, that Tilghman Drive may be extended to South 10th Street, but as of this writing in 2019 that has not taken place.

There was a family named Tilghman that lived on and near the 700 block of Cherry Street up until the 1950s, and who later moved to the Chelton Terrace Public Housing Project. As of this writing in 2019, I am unaware of the reason why the name Tilghman was assigned to the new street.

Do you have an Tilghman Drive memory or picture. Let me know by e-mail so it can be included here.
