POST AVENUE, also known as Post Alley and "Hitch Post Alley", runs from 313 West Street east to South 5th Street, between Stevens and Benson Streets. It runs behind the church that is known in 2006 at the Emmanuel United Pentecostal Church, at 438 Stevens Street. At one time garages lined the alley, and in an unnamed alley that runs between Post Avenue and Benson Street, directly behind the church. Although the garages are gone, all can be seen in the satellite photo below, from 2006. In September of 1932, Courier-Post reporter E. Allen Hughes wrote a three part series of articles about the small streets, alleys, courts and places of Camden, including Post Avenue. |
Do you have an Post Avenue, that is, "Hitch Post Alley" Auburn Alley memory or picture? Let me know by e-mail so it can be included here. Phil Cohen |
