GEORGE
STREET first appears in City Directories in 1869. The street originally
ran from Delaware Avenue to Front
Street, between Federal
Street and
Market Street, in later
years it did not pass through to Front
Street. Two significant businesses in 19th and 20th century Camden
operated at the intersection of George Street and Delaware Avenue, the
West Jersey Hotel (later the New Ridgway Hotel) and
New
Jersey Auto Supply, which was one of Camden's first successful
new
car dealerships. Another business,
Taylor
Brothers Flour, Feed, Seeds and Agricultural Machinery, operated at
both ends of George Street and along the street itself. |
Do you have an George Street memory or picture. Let me know by e-mail so it can be included here. Phil Cohen |
