COMMERCE STREET is a small street that runs west from South 9th Street for a half of a block between Line and Pine Streets, in back of the old Jesse W. Starr School building, the rear of which took up the south side of Commerce Street. A row of houses stood on the south side. There were still occupied houses on Commerce street in 1947. The 1969 New Jersey Bell reverse directory has no listings for Commerce street, however. Today, Commerce Street exists only as a driveway so that cars parked in the lot belonging to the old Starr School, which have been converted to apartments, can access South 9th Street. |
