The board transferred the license of John F. Waters, 419 Federal street, to George W. Kirby and the license of Joseph L. Novak, 629 Ferry avenue, to Eugene Zalewski. The board also granted a transfer to Adella Oreh from 2007 South Seventh street to 2101 Broadway.

2 Men Held On Robbery Charge
Two Camden men were being held without bail in the Camden County Jail early today in connection with the armed robbery yesterday of Kirby’s Bar, 419 Federal St., Camden.
Police identified the suspects as Harvey Williams, 35, of the 700 block of Spruce Street, and William Langford, 26, of the 2000 block of S. Eighth Street. Both are charged with armed robbery and with conspiracy.
Sgt. Frank Martelli said the suspects entered the bar at about 11:50 a.m., wielding two pistols, held the proprietor, George Kirby, 60, and eight customers at bay while they took $400 from a cash register and a gun which Kirby had kept behind the bar.
Witnesses saw the auto in which the suspects fled and police later spotted the vehicle in front of a house in the 600 block of Line Street, Martelli said. A search of the house led to the arrest of the suspects and to the discovery of the stolen money and three guns, which were found hidden in a heater in the basement of the home, the sergeant explained.

Man Critical After Shooting In City Tavern
A Camden man was listed in critical condition at Cooper Hospital today with gunshot wounds received while he allegedly threatened the owner of a Federal Street bar.
Camden Police said Charles Wilson, 32, of the 200 block Cooper Street was shot in the chest and left side after he allegedly threatened George Kirby, 72, owner and operator of Kirby’s Bar, 419 Federal St., Camden, with a knife.
Police said Wilson entered the bar shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday and attempted to leave with a package which apparently did not belong to him. Police said Wilson and Kirby became involved in an argument allegedly resulting with Wilson pulling the knife and attempting to assault Kirby.
Police said Wilson has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. A detainer has been placed with hospital authorities. No charges have been placed against Kirby pending a further investigation.

George Kirby Sr., longtime Camden tavern owner
Virginia Beach, Va. — Services were held here yesterday for George Wilcox Kirby Sr., a longtime Camden tavern owner who died in Virginia Beach last Saturday. He was 86.
A native of Camden, Mr. Kirby ran Kirby’s Tavern in the 400 block of Federal Street for about 35 years. He retired to Virginia Beach along with his wife in 1981.
“It wasn’t fancy. You had a lot of driftwood coming in there, but he ran a decent place,” one family member said in describing Kirby’s Tavern.
Mr. Kirby is survived by his wife Christina Kirby of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Elva Morgan of Dunedin, Fla., and Kathleen Kirby of Camden; a son, George W. Kirby Jr. of Virginia Beach; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
