Introduction
Victor G. Anderson Sr. operated a bar at 751 Ferry Avenue in the 1940s and early 1950s, which was known as the Anderson Tavern. In the early 1950s, the Housing Authority of the City of Camden procured all of the buildings along the north side of Ferry Avenue between Kossuth and 9th Street to make room for the Franklin D. Roosevelt Manor public housing project. The bar at 751 Ferry Avenue was razed. Victor Anderson Sr. then moved his bar to the next block, and at 852 Ferry Avenue, he continued in business into the early 1970s as the Anderson Tavern, and by 1967 as Vic’s Cafe.
In the fall of 1972 the bar at 852 Ferry Avenue had been sold to Carl Cowan and Edward C. Robinson. It was soon renamed Carl & Eddie’s Bar. The building was no longer standing by the late 1980s.
