Boleslaw Ryzinski's Saloon

Boleslaw Ryzinski was operating a saloon and liquor store at 1549 Mount Ephraim Avenue, at the southwest corner of Mount Ephraim Avenue and Morton Street, in 1919 when Prohibition was enacted. He continued operating under a soft drink license through at least 1924. He subsequently opened a hardware store at that address.

Boleslaw Ryzinski was born in Poland around 1884. He came to America in 1902 and married wife Bronislawa in 1913. There were two daughters born to them, Elizabeth and Jennie Ryzinski. His son-in-law, Second Lieutenant John Henry Moses, was killed in action over Italy on September 18, 1944, while serving with the 428th Bomber Squadron, 310th Bombardment Group, Medium. After World War II, he appears in city and telephone directories as Benjamin Ryzinski. He was still listed in the 1959 telephone directories as operating his hardware store at 1549 Mount Ephraim Avenue.

Boleslaw Ryzinski’s daughter, Elizabeth Ryzinski Moses, taught at Camden High School for 37 years.
